八大山人是清代著名的书画家。他的简笔写意花鸟画，以独特的面貌，开一代新风。他的书法亦与他的绘画风格相似，极为简练，到晚年喜用秃笔，一变锐利的笔势而变成浑圆朴茂的风格。

近人研究八大书法，追其师承渊源众说纷纭。或曰宗二王、宗董其昌、宗王宠等等，终如寻其书画师承，至今无一定论一样。据王方宇先生考证，最初，八大山人受欧阳询的影响很深，稍后学董其昌的行草，又转入黄庭坚的夸张开阔等，多方探索，再追寻魏晋人书法的气质，终于参用篆书笔法，形成自己独特的风格：中锋圆润，又婉约多姿且厚重浑成，富有晋人气度。

八大山人在许多绘画作品上的款跋，相当精彩奇巧。如在绘画布局上发现有不足之处，有时用款书云补其意。八大山人也能诗，所以他的画即使画得不多，题上自己随兴发挥的诗，意境就充足了。

2015年，美国史密森尼弗利尔美术馆举办了一场名为“解谜：八大山人的艺术(1626-1705)”的展览，展出了其馆藏的八大山人珍贵书画，一起来欣赏他的部分书法作品。
